Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory in Port Orleans French Quarter - October 2013

I recently stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort during the first week of October 2013 and had the opportunity to try some of the quick service dishes offered at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory.  When I first arrived at the resort, I wanted to have the Chicken Gumbo.  I've had this one before on my previous visits to the resort and enjoyed.  I was curious if this was still good.  I took a picture of the gumbo as soon as I sat at a table.

Chicken Gumbo
A generous serving of Chicken Gumbo is offered, and is served with crackers.  The gumbo is very tasty and not too salty.  There is plenty of chicken and and vegetable in the rue.  Do not be deceived by the size of the serving.  It is very filling.  If you are a fan of tasty stews and want something that will not break your food budget, this dish is for you.

I heard a lot of great reviews from the Disney Foodies Facebook Group for the next dish that I tried, the Baked Chicken Alfredo.  I was a little hesitant on trying this dish because I tried pasta dishes with alfredo-like cream sauces from the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary Resort and the All-Star Resorts and I did not like any of them.  As soon as sat down at a table, I took a picture of the dish.

Baked Chicken Alfredo
The Baked Chicken Alfredo comes served with a fresh baked breadstick.  The quick service staff gives you a generous portion of the pasta.  Wide pasta was used in this dish.  It is mixed with big pieces of chicken.  There is some small pieces of broccoli.  The cream sauce has been reduced during the baking process.  The dish is tasty and not salty.  The right amount of seasoning was used.  The chickent was well seasoned.  The breadstick was the same standard breadstick served at the other quick service locations.  Overall, I really liked this dish.  I ended up ordering this dish over and over again throughout my stay at POFQ!

The next dish I had before from previous visits to POFQ.  The Shrimp Po Boy has been one of my favorite quick service lunch dishes.  This time I wanted something plentiful for lunch because I was extremely hungry from all the walking I was doing at the parks since early morning.  I took this picture as soon as I sat down at a table.

Shrimp Po Boy
The Shrimp Po Boy is huge!  It is enough for two people to share.  The Shrimp Po Boy consists of a generous portion of fried shrimp served on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and onions contained in a sub roll with cajun-flavored mayonnaise.  It is served with freshly cooked potato chips.  The Shrimp Po Boy is so delicious!  The shrimp is tasty, well seasoned and not too salty.  It blends well with the vegetable.  The sub roll tastes good and is easy to bite into.  The chips are crispy, not oily and not salty. This one I could not finish and ended up taking it back to room to store in the refrigerator to eat again!

The next dish that I had is fairly common at the quick service locations throughout the parks and the resorts. I decided to get the Angus Bacon Cheeseburger at POFQ because the quick service locations were very crowded during lunch time and/or did not have any air conditioning. I wanted a place where I could eat in peace and not be constantly sweating!  Note, when ordering the Angus Bacon Cheeseburger at POFQ, you will longer than ordering it at the parks because the cook staff starts making your burger as soon as you order it.  At the time that I ordered it, it took about 15 minutes to get it.  POFQ gives you a vibrating-beeper device that let's you know when it is ready to be picked up.  Once I got the dish, I took a picture of it.

Angus Bacon Cheeseburger
The burger pattie is quite large.  It is cooked well done, topped with melted cheddar cheese and bacon strips.  It is put between a salted burger roll.  The standard fries served at other quick service locations comes with the dish.  The burger is not overly tasty.  I do not like the burgers at Disney because I constantly compare it to Five Guys, which I often enjoy near my home.  To me the burger was ok at best.  The fries were nothing special.  I will not get this one again.

The next dish that I tried is only served during lunch.  Like the Shrimp Po Boy, the Beef Po Boy is a huge dish!  I have to confess that first time I tried this, I did not like it.  I wanted to try this again to see if POFQ changed the way they cooked it.  As soon as I found a table, I took a picture of it.

Beef Po Boy
The Beef Po Boy consists of seasoned shredded beef topped with french fries on a bed of tomatoes and lettuce on a sub roll.  A generous serving of freshly made potatoes comes with the dish.  I did not particularly like the taste of the shredded beef.  I thought that the seasoning was not right, and it seemed to be soggy.  The portion was too big and I could not finish it.  I enjoyed the chips more that the Beef Po Boy.  I have concluded that I will not get this dish ever again.

The next dish that I tried is only offered during dinner. It was Fried Chicken served with two sides and corn bread. I was amazed with amount of fried chicken they gave me.  I got two huge leg quarters.  The two sides that I picked were the collard greens and the mashed potatoes.  This was a great deal for the price ($10.99).  As soon as I found the table, I took a picture.

Fried Chicken
The Fried Chicken is lightly breaded and contains little fat.  It did not have any skin on it.  The chicken was not oily or overcooked.  The meat was tender and tasty.  The seasoning blended well with the chicken.  The collard greens were so good.  I like soul food and this reminded me of good soul food.  The collard greens were well seasoned.  I wish that POFQ sold this as a separate side dish because I would have ordered this side every day.  The mashed potatoes were very tasty and filling.  The corn bread was not dry and pretty good.  This dish can easily be split between two people.  I will definitely order this again!

I only ordered breakfast once from POFQ since I had leftovers from my many meals.  I decided to try the Bounty Platter.  This breakfast platter is served throughout the quick service restaurants at the other resorts. I wanted to check if there was anything different with one served here.  I took a picture of it as soon as I found a table.

Bounty Platter
This version of the Bounty Platter consists of breakfast potatoes, bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuit and a small mickey waffle.  I'm not the biggest fan of the quick service breakfast at the resorts.  This one was no exception.  The eggs were of the powdered variety.  The potatoes were okay.  The bacon and sausage was alright.  The mickey waffle was good.  The biscuit was okay.  I was not impressed with this dish overall and would not order it again.

The next dish is also commonly offered at the quick service restaurants around the parks and the resorts. I wanted to eat the chicken nuggets at POFQ to see if it was any different.  Like all the other dishes, you need to wait for this one because they cook it as soon as you order it.  It still takes longer than at the parks so patience is a must.  Once I received it and got a table, I took a picture of it.

Chicken Nuggets
These Chicken Nuggets did not taste any different than the ones in the park.  They were tasty, not oily and not over fried.  The fries were the same standard fries served at the parks.  I liked this, especially with mustard.  I would get this again!

I was craving this next dish.  I was curious how the Chicken Quesadilla would be. As soon as I received it and sat down at a table, I took a picture of it.

Chicken Quesadilla
POFQ is really generous with their portions!  They gave me four large pieces of quesadilla.  Each piece consists of chicken and cheese grilled-pressed between two flour tortillas.  It comes with a side of cajun rice, baked beans, salsa, and sour cream.  The quesadilla was really good.  The melted cheese blended well with the chicken and  tortillla.  The salsa and sour cream were good with the quesadilla.  The cajun rice and baked beans were well seasoned and tasty.  This dish was a hit and something that I would  order again.

I could not conclude my trip without trying a dessert.  I decided to to get a scoop of the cookies and cream and a scoop of the strawberry ice cream.  I really love the ice cream here. It is not too sweet and very creamy.  I want to try the other flavors here on my next visit.  Before I ate it, I took a picture of it.
